A current student of Pierre Amoyal at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Elias David Moncado is a former major prize winner at the Hindemith, Andrea Postacchini, Karol Lipinski, Sendai, Valsesia, and Telemann International Violin Competitions. He was awarded an Italian violin made by Giuseppe Pedrazzini (Milan, 1918).
24-year-old Chisa Kitagawa from Japan and 22-year-old Jaewon Wee from South Korea have been awarded second and third prizes respectively.
„I am overwhelmed with emotions, and I still can’t believe what happened today!“ said first prize winner, Elias David Moncado. „It was a big dream for me. Yesterday, at the selection, at the moment when I played Tchaikovsky, I felt the atmosphere of the concert, as if it were a real concert, and this inspired me. I would like to say words of gratitude to my parents, colleagues, teachers! And of course, to everyone who took part in the organization of the festival!“
The final of the competition required each finalist to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major with conductor Mihhail Gerts and members of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia.
This year’s jury comprised Mikhail Samuilovitch Kopelman (Chairman), Vladimir Spivakov, Boris Kuschnir, Tong Weidong, and Joji Hattori.
Previous prizewinners include VC Young Artists Daniel Lozakovich and María Dueñas.
