The Vienna Boys Choir, in Vienna, has this week announced that the ensemble is likely to be insolvent by September, 2020 – due to the devastating economic affects of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Recognized as one of the world’s best known choirs for boy sopranos and altos, the non-profit organization is largely financed by their tours and concerts.
“The current crisis has badly affected the Vienna Boys Choir – both as a school and as artists …” a spokesperson for the ensemble has this week said.
“We are a private NGO which does not receive any government subsidies or public funding and while the choirs cannot perform, we have no income … we have had to cancel 113 performances so far, more are certain to follow.”
