Phoenix Avalon from United States has been awarded 1st prize in the Senior 18-to-20-years-old category at the 2019 Spohr International Violin Competition – in Weimar, Germany.
A current student of Itzhak Perlman and Li Lin at The Juilliard School, Phoenix is a former top prize winner at the Johansen and Fischoff International String Competitions.
He will receive €3,500.
2nd and 3rd prizes in the Senior Category were awarded to Tassilo Probst from Germany – and Taichi Miyamoto from Japan.
Haewon Lim from South Korea was awarded 1st prize in the Intermediate 15-to-17-years-old age category.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Pauline van der Rest from Belgium – and Anatol Toth from Switzerland.
Maya Wichert from Germany was awarded 1st prize in the 14-Years-and-Younger Junior category.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Raphael Nussbaumer from Switzerland – and Fiona Khuong-Huu from the United States.
The 2019 jury comprised: Friedemann Eichhorn (Chairman), Remus Azoitei, Boris Garlitsky, Eszter Haffner, Latica Honda-Rosenberg, Svetlana Makarova, Axel Strauss, Zohrab Tadevosyan, Kathrin ten Hagen and Yamei Yu.
