Katharina Wagner has pushed back rehearsals for this summer’s Bayreuth Festival until April 14.
The Festival strongly denies German blog reports that it has been called off.
Ms Wagner said: ‘At the moment we are in close cooperation with our committees and the responsible authorities and will send you information on our website as soon as possible. It goes without saying that the health of our guests, all contributors and employees comes first.’
The town of Bayreuth has shown a relatively high rate of Covid infection – 197 cases, 40 of them in hospital.
