We are very much looking forward to sharing our 3rd Global High Scorers’ Concert with you on 14 November. These concerts are such a familiar part of the ABRSM world. For many years, they have provided opportunities for communities to come together and celebrate the achievements and talents of their musicians as they develop and progress. In so many ways, our virtual Global High Scorers’ Concerts are no different, in connecting people, sharing musical performances and providing inspiration and enjoyment for audience and participants alike.
We are also thrilled to announce our support for the International Choral Festival and Competition. The ICCR invites choirs from all around the world to be a part of a virtual International Choral Festival and Competition. This is an opportunity to display the rich choral heritage of your country and region on a global platform. ABRSM’s Deputy Chief Examiner, Mervyn Cousins is delighted to be part of the expert adjudicating panel.
I’m really looking forward to being involved in the (virtual) festival and to hearing the many different groups and performances. From a personal point of view, I – like others – have been unable this year to adjudicate as I regularly do at live choral competitions worldwide, and I’m therefore doubly excited to being part of the ‘jury’ for this one.
In the current climate, it is of vital importance that opportunities are available to musicians to perform. Through supporting the Global High Scorers’ Concert and the International Choir Competition and Festival, ABRSM wish to open the doors to many, to allow singers and instrumentalists to experience the thrill of performing music as part of a global community.
The concert programme features pieces by composers Handel, Smetana and Valentini, and displays the wealth of talent by musicians of all ages. With over 20 countries represented, this is truly a global event, and one in which performers feel a great sense of occasion through their performances.
Our role as a global music education organisation puts us in a unique and privileged position – working with and supporting teachers, learners, representatives and partner organisations all over the world. This uplifting and heart-warming concert could not have happened without them.
It is not too late to take part. Please read the competition guidelines on the ABRSM website.
Enjoy watching the concert from the comfort of your own home. The concert is available to view at www.youtube.com/abrsm.
Wherever you are, we hope you can find a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy some magical performances from these wonderful musicians.
